WLYT aims to enhance and enrich the lives of young people through a range of drama and theatre related workshops and high quality performance projects of a professional standard.
WLYT was established in 1986. Governed by a Voluntary Board of Directors, with Michael Mackenzie in the Chair (a locally based theatre and television actor), WLYT operates as a not for profit organisation and competes for resources from West Lothian Council, the Scottish Arts Council and other trusts, foundations, charities and corporate sponsors. In April 2004, Michael Richardson was appointed as Artistic Director / Chief Executive to lead a small staff team of eight.
WLYT was founded to create an organisation which would use drama as a means to securing a range of social and educational benefits for young people, as well as developing their creative and artistic potential.
Since its incorporation as a registered charity, WLYT has established a reputation as a leading organisation within the youth theatre movement, working with over 400 young people each week. Based in the Playshed, Livingston, WLYT provides workshops and performance projects throughout West Lothian for young people between the ages of P5 to 25 years.
