WLYT delivers weekly drama and video workshops to young adults with learning disabilities and projects for young people with learning disabilities; additional activities are integrated into the mainstream programme to encourage social integration.

As well as facilitating arts provision for service users, WLYT has created training packages for the staff in Continuous Professional Development in drama for those working in day services and similar settings.

West Lothian Youth Theatre offers a range of courses targeted at those working in or with day services for young people and adults with learning disabilities. The courses themselves are designed to provide participating staff with a theoretical grasp and practical understanding of a variety of drama skills and techniques to apply practically in the workplace.

Each course covers a particular area of benefit but has a much wider application as referred to in its title. All the games and exercises can be used to develop confidence and self esteem and promote socially inclusive environments and attitudes. Secondary benefits for service users relate to enhancement of social skills, increases in educational potential and greater employability. The courses are excellent resources individually, but combined, they provide maximum benefit and broader application.

To book one of these courses, or for further more information about any of this training please contact Rachel or Eleanor at rachel@wlyt.org or eleanor@wlyt.org .
